The field mouse kept the inventive compass of light which stood vigil at the promontory overlooking the seascape expanse. On every anniversary of the adventure Tripp celebrated by taking the basket and jar from the shelf where the pride of place held up a few books, and opened the containers to peek inside.
After years of preventing ships from being bound on the rocks there came another mysterious sound at Tripp's door. A mechanical dog stepped in with precise movements. Binta's familiar crystal ball was housed in its chest cavity glowing with an overpowering light. Its tail acted as a needle to play a recording on a spinning cylinder that popped out of its back.
"Special delivery!" Binta's voice explained this self winding robot would chase its tail around and around whilst lighting the tower. "Glad tah live an' glad tah die. Thought I'd stay on that beautiful rest stop before entering the pearly gates, but then finally remembered I had one life left, so if ye be up fer another adventure..."
Tripp smiled.
